Yesterday, at Manchester City’s stadium, Manchester United were beaten 1-0. Everything suggested a new force had risen to conquer the league, and is destined, like China, to dominate for years.
As with rising civilisations, the new power, M. City, have people, propaganda and power – and money to waste on the best army of footballers and staff. Their Blue Moon Rising slogans and battle cries are fresh. Their king coach, Mancini, a sly warrior, masterfully uses psychology to overcome the previous psychological masters.
As with declining civilisations, old Red Devil’s are a waning power – they cannot match Blue Moon Rising resources. Red Devil players and supporters look jaded, disillusioned, as if being top is expected without a fight.
M. United’s Sir Alex Ferguson, destroyed the previous conquerors of English soccer, Liverpool, and fought off rising powers of Arsenal and Chelsea. But like a tired old king, he’s 70, perhaps too old to fight another rising power.
M. City’s stadium is the brightest and best gladiators’ arena money can buy, a state of the art, impregnable fortress. Videos replay best wins, to brainwash hordes of followers to a frenzy of jumping, screaming excitement.
In contrast, the few M. United supporters in the ground seemed introverted, with no “Plan B”. Their best battle-songs were re-worked and sung sarcastically by Blue Moon Rising troops. Red Devils supporters, usually noisily inspiring their team to at least one goal, were left with nothing to sing about. Like their crown, their songs were usurped.
America’s supremacy cannot last forever, nor can China’s. Sadly, nor can Manchester United’s. But the past years have been happy fun, supporting what became the richest, most successful sports team in history, the Red Devils of Manchester United. Over 30 trophies in 20 years. Maybe it’s time for another team to make other supporters happy.
PS. Just a suggestion... After you ‘die’, if you can choose where your soul re-incarnates, choose a civilisation and sports team at their peaks. You're more likely to enjoy happy fun... :-)
