'I overheard,' the man said. 'I've been on Ventura too.' I'd talked with Gilda about our strange meeting on the ship in Barbados. 'We had a terrible time. Carnival cruise advertising misleads. Many people had problems. But Carnival don't care.'
I knew this already. On my Carnival cruise, people who didn't conform were thrown off the ship at the next port, and had to find money to return to their country. Some reports put the figure at 100 people thrown off the ship. I heard that in one case, a fight had occurred, so an entire wedding party was thrown off. Much was 'alleged' hearsay, or common knowledge.
''My son is a football fanatic,' the man said. 'He was looking forward to playing football every day, in the soccer court they advertised. But it only opened from 12pm-2pm, just when we needed family lunch. The misleading adverts destroyed our holiday.'
I'd met many on the ship whose cruise was imperfect because of misleading Carnival adverts. Too many to list here. For example, the advertised BBQ on a '"deserted" island of Catalina. When we arrived, it wasn't deserted, the BBQ was on the ship, and the beach was cordoned to stop us walking.
'We had many other problems too, so I complained,' the man continued. 'They refused to discuss it except through a lawyer. The lawyer tried to make me drop the case. But I persevered. Eventually, they gave a £500 refund. But the aggravation they made me go through to get the £500 was terrible. It's a pity not all passengers understand their lack of customer care. They'll be sinking soon, if they don't treat passengers better. I'll never cruise with Carnival again. I tell everyone else not to as well.'
I simply agreed. I haven't yet written on some of the terrible things I heard on the Carnival Cruises last month, because this is a positive, loving blog. All to say at present is, I agree 100% with the man in the gym. No doubt we'll meet again.
This is a positive blog about helping others. So if you know anyone seeking a cruise, be positive. Suggest they don't choose P&O - Carnival Cruises - they'll probably enjoy a different, more caring, loving cruise line, maybe MUCH more caring and loving.

As I finished the above, BJ arrived. With no job, he began here as a volunteer. He's a young art/computer geek, so gorgeously caring and loving, I gave him paid work. Despite initial costs for little return, it was a way to help a lovely young guy step into the working world. With this chance, his soul may one day achieve much more, I had thought. Last year we found a niche. He converted my books into ebooks, and designed book covers and this website.
(If you need an ebook, book cover, or website send me a message. BJ's professional and fast, reasonable and loving! For his T-shirts, downloads etc. go to www.juxtaboom.com )
Last week I'd felt ill. So when he arrived at 10:08, late due to slipping on icy pavements, I apologised for not being as nice as normal. That's the problem with illness. It affects how we choose words, and our tone of voice too.
'That's OK,' he said. 'I'm not the same when ill either.'
And then he told me this story about seeing devils...
'Years ago, I was really ill, half asleep. I was aware of everything around me, and wasn't dreaming. Dreams feel different. It was winter daylight, with lights off. Suddenly I was disturbed. Three devils darted around the room in fluid shape, black with red eyes and trails and mouths. They whispered random streams of numbers and words, like gobbledegook. I wasn't afraid of them, because even when they zoomed around the bed they smiled.'
That's the problem. When devils smile, it's difficult to know how evil the d-evils are. But his zooming happened years ago. Thank God he doesn't seem to have lasting bad effects. I'll keep checking this week to make sure.
'I painted pictures of the devils,' BJ said. 'Would you like one? It's not 100% accurate, just my interpretation.'
'Great for the blog. Thank you,' I replied. 'If anyone ever sees anything similar, they'll know to seek help at once.'
