I was lucky to witness football matches in Glasgow's Hampden Park between Egypt and Belarus, and semi-finals at Manchester United's ground between Brazil and South Korea - with almost 70,000 others!
The beauty was in the international freedom to compete. No badness between fans. Just friendly fun and almost loving rivalry. It's a great pity such friendly fun and loving rivalry isn't a part of some couples relationships!
Major parks erected giant screens which attracted thousands daily. Yesterday we drove to Victoria Park for the closing ceremony. The day I took the train to Hyde Park for the last full day of events.
On both days, champagne picnics were regularly interrupted during sporting events by thousands of shrieks of delight or gasps of horror. During gold medal ceremony awards, national anthems played to standing ovations from the park crowds. Spine-tingly gorgeous experiences...
Few events on this planet bring all nations at one in peace, love, and harmony.
Perhaps the Olympics should be held more regularly, to bring more regular peace, love, and harmony to this planet.
